Does God love Satan?

Let's start by looking at God's love. In the Old Testament, God's love was extended to his chosen people and was conditional.

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands (Dt. 7:9 NIV). Drift fun games, drift games, best drifting games.

In the New Testament, God's love takes another form: Jesus Christ. God gave his one and only son as an expression of his love for mankind. It was not possible to meet God's standard of righteousness by following the Law, so Jesus came to save those who were under the Law.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Rom. 5:8 NIV).

In all cases, the Bible shows us God's love directed toward his people -- towards his covenant people in the Old Testament and believers in his son in the New Testament. The ultimate demonstration of God's love through his son, Jesus Christ, is only of benefit to men and women. Plants, animals, angels, and other created beings will not benefit from this redemptive love. The Bible tells us that angels try to understand this, but clearly it is not for them:

Do you realize how fortunate you are? Angels would have given anything to be in on this (1 Pet. 1:12b The Message)!

So God's love, revealed through Jesus' atoning death, was not intended for angels, and Satan is one of God's angels who rebeled against God.

How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!

You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.

I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."

But you are brought down to the grave,
to the depths of the pit.
(Isaiah 14:12-15 NIV)

Satan has corrupted many of the heavenly angels and continues to lead his revolt against God.

And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him (Rev. 12:7-9 NIV).

In the end, we are told that Satan will be thrown into a lake of burning sulfur, where he will be tormented day and night, forever and ever (Rev. 20:10).

So getting back to your question, "Does God love Satan?" Satan is an enemy of God's who deceives those whom God loves. The Bible does not promise God's love to Satan or to any other created being, but only to men and women so that they may believe and be saved through Jesus Christ.
