Is it OK to change religions? That really depends on what religion you are changing to. Many of the world's religions are accepting of other religions. To many this seems like a good thing, but the Bible shows us something completely different. Many people feel that there are several roads to heaven, and that you can choose whichever road you like. Jesus calls this the wide road. "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it" (Matthew 7:13 NIV).
He goes on to explain, that there is a narrow road that leads to life. It is not the road that many travel on. "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it" (Matthew 7:13-14 NIV).
In other words, you can't simply follow the religion of many. Instead, you should follow the religion that leads to life and an eternal relationship with God. Again we can rely on the words of Jesus, when he says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 NIV, emphasis added). So the faith that the Bible describes is a single-minded, narrow-road faith. It is not like the other religions. If you have faith in Jesus Christ as the one and only Son of God, who died on the cross to forgive you of your sins, you will find a relationship with God that no other religion can offer. Unlike other religions, it's not about what you do, but in whom you trust -- both in life and death. Be careful about choosing what you believe and who you believe in. |
