The king (or leader) must be a countryman of the nation he will lead. Verses 16 - 20 also give requirements and descriptions of the king's powers and the laws he must adhere to. Among the other requirements are that the king may not acquire a great number of silver or gold, horses, or wives, because his heart will be led astray and he will not learn to revere God. |
