What causes AIDS?

In general, sickness, disease, and infirmity are associated with the curse of sin. It is often considered that in the Garden of Eden, before Adam and Eve fell from God's grace, there was no sickness. After their fall, however, a curse was placed on mankind that brought with it sickness, death, toil, and strife.

While accepting Jesus as your savior will bring forgiveness and break the curse of sin in your life, we still live in a fallen world and look forward to the ultimate fulfillment of God's plan.

Jesus will return and take those who have trusted in him to heaven. Isaiah, referring to heaven as the future Zion wrote:

No one who dwells there will say, “I am sick”;
the people who live there will be forgiven their guilt (Isaiah 33:24 NAB).

So our sinful condition is what causes HIV and AIDS. It is the cause of cancer, as well. Some people will try to use AIDS to argue that it is God's judgement on homosexuality, but this argument only shows fear or bigotry, since HIV is spread through a variety of means (i.e. sexually transmitted, shared needles, blood transfusions), and innocent people are afflicted as well as those who do not follow God.
