What is the meaning of the Godhead, in Col. 2:9?This question was originally, "What is the meaning of the God head, in Col. 2:1?" but the reference in question appears to be Col. 2:9: For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
We have Old English to thank for this confusion. The term "Godhead" can be found in the King James translation of this verse. A more current translation (meaning "more accurately translated into currently spoken language") can be found in translations like the New International Version: "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form" Even the New American Standard translates this verse as: "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form," So using the modern translations, we find that the all the fullness of God lives in Jesus in bodily form. This echoes the words of John: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:1,14 NIV).
