When Jesus turned the water into wine, was it fermented?

The Biblical account (only referenced in John 2:1-11) does not specifically say if the wine was fermented. It only remarks that when the master of the banquet drank some, he was impressed with the quality of the wine saying,

"Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." (Jn 2:10 NIV)

Now, having personally drank both fermented and non-fermented juice from grapes, I can tell you that there is a rather strong difference. I'm sure the master of the banquet would have noticed if the drink he consumed was simply grape juice and not wine.

What is worth noting is the fact that Jesus didn't just make "ordinary" wine out of water but a high-quality wine!
