Why does God not come down to Earth?God has come down to earth. He has personally visited men and women in the Bible. These include:
Most importantly, however, God became flesh and lived here on earth in the person of Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:1, 14 NIV). God became flesh in Jesus so that we could experience God directly and so that he could make a way for us to be saved from punishment for sin and receive eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son" (John 3:16-18 NIV).

Although we have not seen God in the person of Jesus Christ in our lifetime, we rely on the witness of those who saw him, who talked with him, and who ate with him. We have the testimony of those whose lives were so dramatically transformed by experiencing Jesus' life, death, and resurrection that they were willing to die so that the message could be shared. The New Testament is a collection of the writings of those who were closest to Jesus and not only believed his message, but also devoted their lives to sharing it so that others could experience him as well. One day He will return to Earth and stay forever. Until then, God has decided that faith is the proper response to the message presented in the Bible. Yet, one must wonder why God doesn't "prove" Himself to an unbelieving world by showing up physically. But some might say that showing up physically still would not produce the response that God wants. The Bible records in the Book of Exodus that God manifested His presence very strongly to the Israelites and yet they still did not place their trust in Him. The world does not need a visible manifestation of God, the world needs the Church to manifest the love of Christ. The Gospel of John claims that if the church truly loved its members that all men would know that we were His disciples. (John 13:35) The bottom line is this: God has come down to earth in Jesus Christ. Related Answers |
