Why was Jesus crucified? One of the most comprehensive descriptions about why Jesus was crucified was actually written long before Jesus came to earth. The prophet Isaiah foretold that Jesus would suffer. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed (Isaiah 53:5 NIV).
From this, we see that Jesus was crucified for our "transgressions" and "iniquities." In other words, Jesus died because we needed a savior. We were condemned by our sins, but Jesus' death has brought us peace and healing. This is further reinforced in various passages of the New Testament. |
